Head of Electrical/Automation Engineering
The Head of Electrical/Automation Engineering will lead the electrical engineering and automation function, with overall responsibility for approximately 30 employees and five direct reports. The role combines departmental leadership, resource planning and delivery accountability with the technical understanding required to oversee electrical design, automation and software/hardware integration.
Responsibilities and Duties:
- Lead a multidisciplinary electrical engineering and automation department, ensuring effective people management and reliable delivery across multiple concurrent projects.
- Provide leadership to five direct reports and a wider department of approximately 30, setting clear objectives, accountability and performance expectations.
- Develop engineering managers, team leaders and technical specialists through coaching, performance management, capability development and succession planning.
- Plan department capacity, allocate resources and manage competing engineering priorities against project schedules and manufacturing requirements.
- Provide technical oversight of electrical architecture, schematics, wiring, control-panel design and engineering documentation, including work produced using EPLAN.
- Oversee PLC-based automation and controls using Allen-Bradley/Rockwell Automation systems, including Studio 5000 and FactoryTalk View.
- Direct the integration of electrical hardware, embedded electronics, sensors, actuators and software-driven control systems; guide teams using C, C++, C# and Python where applicable.
- Work closely with mechanical engineering, software development, production, procurement and project management to ensure designs can be manufactured, integrated and delivered efficiently.
- Establish robust design reviews, verification, testing, engineering change control and documentation practices.
- Lead the resolution of complex technical, integration and production challenges, maintaining product quality, reliability and project delivery.
- Drive improvements in engineering processes, standardisation, manufacturability, team productivity and cross-functional communication.
Qualifications and Experience:
- Degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics, Automation, Mechatronics, Computer Engineering or a closely related discipline.
- 8 to 10+ years of relevant engineering experience.
- Proven experience leading engineering teams, ideally including management of team leaders or senior engineers, with accountability for people, resources and project delivery.
- Solid engineering pedigree gained within a manufacturer of complex products; experience in aerospace, automotive, power systems, industrial automation, machinery or advanced manufacturing is particularly relevant.
- Strong understanding of electrical design, control-system architecture, automation and the integration of electrical hardware with software.
- Familiarity with EPLAN is strongly preferred; AutoCAD Electrical or comparable electrical CAD experience will also be considered.
- Experience of Allen-Bradley/Rockwell Automation systems, ideally Studio 5000 and FactoryTalk View, is strongly preferred; candidates from comparable platforms such as Siemens TIA Portal will also be considered.
- Ability to lead teams working with C, C++, C# or Python and understand how software, embedded electronics and controls interact; hands-on expertise in every language is not required.
- Experience overseeing engineering from design and development through manufacturing, integration, verification, factory testing and delivery.
- Demonstrated ability to develop people, improve engineering processes, manage competing priorities and collaborate across technical and manufacturing functions.
- Clear communication skills, sound technical judgement and a practical, accountable leadership approach.
- Willingness to work on site in Ras Al Khaimah and acceptance of the stated employment package.
Candidate Profile:
The successful candidate will be a credible electrical or automation engineering leader who has progressed from a strong technical foundation into the management of a substantial engineering function. They will understand electrical design, PLC-based automation and software/hardware integration well enough to challenge decisions and guide specialists, without needing to be the most hands-on programmer or CAD designer in the team. Above all, they will be able to develop people, establish accountability and deliver complex manufactured products reliably.
Design Manager
Responsibilities and Duties:
- Lead, mentor, and develop a team of 17+ mechanical designers, fostering a culture of technical excellence and accountability.
- Oversee and manage the entire design process, from the initial concept to the final release, ensuring compliance with customer specifications.
- Develop and maintain detailed design project plans that align with overall project timelines and client delivery requirements.
- Drive improvements in design workflows, documentation standards, and version control to ensure accuracy, traceability, and data integrity.
- Maintain full ownership of the Bill of Materials (BOM) management process, ensuring complete, structured, and accurate BOMs that support seamless interaction with manufacturing, procurement, and inventory functions.
- Establish and enforce optimal practices for design change management, ensuring that design revisions are appropriately controlled and communicated across departments.
- Collaborate closely with project managers, production teams, procurement, and supply chain personnel to ensure alignment between design outputs and downstream operational requirements.
- Identify opportunities for continuous improvement within design processes, including standardization, modular design approaches, and design-for-manufacturing (DFM) principles.
- Provide technical leadership and guidance during client design reviews and quality assurance processes.
- Build internal capabilities to ensure the design department is fully prepared to integrate with broader company systems and processes as business operations evolve.
Qualifications and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or related discipline; a Master’s degree is an advantage.
- Minimum 10 years of relevant experience in mechanical design, including at least 5 years in a management or leadership role.
- Experience in designing for batch production and one-off products.
- Demonstrated experience in complex, bespoke manufacturing environments (experience in aerospace, simulation, or highly engineered equipment preferred).
- Thorough understanding of BOM structuring, configuration management, and best practices in engineering data management.
- Experience with SolidWorks and Catia V5 design programs.
- Experience implementing or improving design governance systems, file management structures, and design control processes.
- Strong leadership, organizational, and cross-functional collaboration skills.
- Excellent problem-solving capabilities, with a practical, hands-on approach to design challenges.
- Ability to lead process improvements that align design outputs with business system requirements.
Design Engineer
Responsibilities and Duties:
- Design, develop, and test mechanical, electrical, or structural components and systems.
- Create detailed 2D and 3D CAD models and technical drawings.
- Conduct feasibility studies, simulations, and stress analyses.
- Work closely with cross-functional teams, including manufacturing, product development, and R&D.
- Select materials and components that align with design requirements.
- Optimize designs for efficiency, cost, and manufacturability.
- Ensure compliance with industry standards, regulations, and safety protocols.
- Troubleshoot and resolve design-related issues during production or testing phases.
- Prepare documentation, including design reports, specifications, and user manuals.
- Stay up to date with new technologies, industry trends, and best practices.
- Assessing a design brief to gauge the design requirements
