Design Manager
Responsibilities and Duties:
- Lead, mentor, and develop a team of 17+ mechanical designers, fostering a culture of technical excellence and accountability.
- Oversee and manage the entire design process, from the initial concept to the final release, ensuring compliance with customer specifications.
- Develop and maintain detailed design project plans that align with overall project timelines and client delivery requirements.
- Drive improvements in design workflows, documentation standards, and version control to ensure accuracy, traceability, and data integrity.
- Maintain full ownership of the Bill of Materials (BOM) management process, ensuring complete, structured, and accurate BOMs that support seamless interaction with manufacturing, procurement, and inventory functions.
- Establish and enforce optimal practices for design change management, ensuring that design revisions are appropriately controlled and communicated across departments.
- Collaborate closely with project managers, production teams, procurement, and supply chain personnel to ensure alignment between design outputs and downstream operational requirements.
- Identify opportunities for continuous improvement within design processes, including standardization, modular design approaches, and design-for-manufacturing (DFM) principles.
- Provide technical leadership and guidance during client design reviews and quality assurance processes.
- Build internal capabilities to ensure the design department is fully prepared to integrate with broader company systems and processes as business operations evolve.
Qualifications and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or related discipline; a Master’s degree is an advantage.
- Minimum 10 years of relevant experience in mechanical design, including at least 5 years in a management or leadership role.
- Experience in designing for batch production and one-off products.
- Demonstrated experience in complex, bespoke manufacturing environments (experience in aerospace, simulation, or highly engineered equipment preferred).
- Thorough understanding of BOM structuring, configuration management, and best practices in engineering data management.
- Experience with SolidWorks and Catia V5 design programs.
- Experience implementing or improving design governance systems, file management structures, and design control processes.
- Strong leadership, organizational, and cross-functional collaboration skills.
- Excellent problem-solving capabilities, with a practical, hands-on approach to design challenges.
- Ability to lead process improvements that align design outputs with business system requirements.
Design Engineer
Responsibilities and Duties:
- Design, develop, and test mechanical, electrical, or structural components and systems.
- Create detailed 2D and 3D CAD models and technical drawings.
- Conduct feasibility studies, simulations, and stress analyses.
- Work closely with cross-functional teams, including manufacturing, product development, and R&D.
- Select materials and components that align with design requirements.
- Optimize designs for efficiency, cost, and manufacturability.
- Ensure compliance with industry standards, regulations, and safety protocols.
- Troubleshoot and resolve design-related issues during production or testing phases.
- Prepare documentation, including design reports, specifications, and user manuals.
- Stay up to date with new technologies, industry trends, and best practices.
- Assessing a design brief to gauge the design requirements
- Conducting and/or using research on user experience and needs, current market trends and general functionality
- Developing solutions that solve user problems
- Determining whether a design solution is user-friendly, cost-effective and environmentally friendly
- Creating multiple iterations of design prototypes using computer-aided design tools
- Conducting rigorous usability tests and modifying the product based on the test results
- Evaluating design solutions against industry standards and regulations
- Documenting the design process and presenting progress reports to all relevant stakeholders
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Civil, or Industrial Engineering (or related field).
- Proven experience in design engineering, preferably in [specific industry].
